Gateway Connect
Digitizing Logistics Operations for Nationwide Supply Chain Management
The Challenge
Gateway Connect, a major player in India's logistics sector, specializes in handling containerized import and export shipments across the country via ISD (Inland Shipping Depot - Train) and CFS (Container Freight Station - Ship) networks. With their vast operational footprint and crucial role in India's supply chain, seamless coordination and real-time visibility are critical to their success. Before embracing digital transformation, Gateway Connect faced serious logistical bottlenecks due to a lack of centralized tracking and real-time updates. The absence of a proper tracking system made it difficult to monitor container movement, yard inventory, or the progress of shipments. Clients, stakeholders, and truck drivers had no way to access real-time updates, leading to confusion, constant follow-ups, and operational chaos. Drivers would arrive at designated locations to pick up containers based on estimated timelines, but due to inaccurate or outdated information, containers were often not ready. This resulted in drivers waiting at locations for several days, wasting time, manpower, and money, and negatively impacting Gateway's credibility and client trust. Most updates were communicated manually, leading to errors, miscommunication, and delays.
Key Operational Challenges
- No tracking mechanism for container movement and yard inventory
- End users left in the dark without real-time updates
- End users left in the dark without real-time updates
- Significant delays and idle time for truck drivers
- Inefficient manual communication leading to errors
Business Impact
- Wasted time, manpower, and financial resources
- Damaged credibility and client trust
- Constant follow-ups and operational chaos
- Inability to scale operations efficiently
Our Approach
After thoroughly analyzing Gateway Connect's operational challenges and understanding their complex logistics network, we developed a strategic approach to digitize their entire workflow. We began with extensive field research, spending time with truck drivers, yard managers, and operations staff to identify pain points and process inefficiencies. Our team then designed a comprehensive digital ecosystem that would connect all stakeholders in real-time while integrating with existing systems. We employed an agile development methodology, releasing features in phases to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations. Throughout the development process, we maintained close collaboration with Gateway's team, conducting regular training sessions and gathering feedback to refine the solution. The result was a custom logistics application with smart backend integration that brought transparency, control, and real-time communication to their nationwide logistics operations.
Discovery & Field Research
We began by immersing ourselves in Gateway Connect's operations, spending time with truck drivers, yard managers, and logistics coordinators to understand the real-world challenges they faced daily. This hands-on approach allowed us to identify critical pain points and process inefficiencies that weren't immediately apparent from initial discussions.
"Understanding the day-to-day realities of logistics operations was crucial to designing a solution that would address the actual needs of all stakeholders, from drivers to management."
System Architecture & Integration Planning
We designed a comprehensive digital ecosystem that would connect all stakeholders in real-time while integrating with Gateway's existing systems. Our architecture focused on creating a scalable, secure platform that could handle the complex data flows between different parts of the logistics network, from container yards to customs clearance.

Agile Development & Phased Implementation
We employed an agile development methodology, breaking the project into sprints and releasing features in phases to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations. This approach allowed Gateway to start benefiting from the digital transformation immediately while giving us the flexibility to adapt based on real-world feedback.
Training & Adoption Strategy
We developed a comprehensive training program to ensure all stakeholders could effectively use the new system. This included specialized training for different user groups, from truck drivers to yard managers to administrative staff. We also created detailed documentation and in-app guidance to support ongoing learning.
The adoption strategy included a phased rollout starting with key hubs, followed by gradual expansion to the entire network. This approach allowed us to address any issues early and build a base of successful users who could champion the system.

How It Works
Data Synchronization
Gateway's operations team regularly updates container, inventory, shipment, and status data on the backend. The system processes this information in real-time, ensuring all stakeholders have access to the latest updates.
API Integration
The system is integrated with APIs that fetch dynamic updates from external sources and internal systems, including customs databases, shipping line information, and GPS tracking data from vehicles.
Role-Based Access Control
Based on user permissions, relevant information is displayed in the app—ensuring clarity, control, and access to only the necessary data. Different stakeholders (drivers, yard managers, clients) see customized interfaces tailored to their needs.
Automated Notifications
The system automatically sends notifications to relevant stakeholders based on predefined triggers and events, ensuring everyone is informed of important updates without manual intervention.
